A Walk to Remember
Enoch walked with God. Genesis 5.24 (a) (NIV)
At
certain
times in life you may feel as though you are
a walking
billboard for Murphy’s Law, that says, “Anything that can go wrong will go
wrong.” Maybe you have had one of those days, weeks, or even years where
everything just seems to be going wrong. No matter what you say, words are
misunderstood, feelings get hurt.
How
can
you break the cycle? Can there ever be peace again? The answer may sound overly
simplistic, but the results can be surprisingly positive. Take a walk! You may
ask that’s it and I say that’s it. Take a walk. A walk often strikes up
thoughts of peacefulness and tranquility. A walk is a time to unwind and
reflect. And when someone joins you on your walk, an added facet of fellowship
enhances the walk. Something amazing happens on walks: during this time of
limited distractions and few interruptions, we are able to focus all of our
attention on the relationship and simply pour out what is on our hearts and
minds to the one who is listening.
The
Bible
mentions a man who walked with God. We
don’t know much about him but what we
do know is that Enoch walked with God.
For
this to happen in our lives a few
things need to be present first. For example, we cannot walk with God without
faith. 2 Corinthians5:7 tells us that “we walk by faith,”
and we read in Hebrews 11:6 that “without faith it is impossible to please
Him”
Also, in order to walk with God there must be mutual agreement, as the prophet
Amos reminds us: “Can
two walk together, unless they are agreed?”
(3:3). We must agree to let God lead us. The first thing Jesus asked His
disciples to do was to follow Him. By faith we believe, by faith we agree, by
faith we follow, and by faith we walk.
Times
may
be tough, relationships may be strained, and circumstances may be difficult.
You may not understand why you are where you are in life, but by faith choose
to walk with God. While you are on the path, He will show you so much as you
pour out your heart to Him in faith, believing that He can direct your steps.
You will certainly have a walk to remember.
