Do I Feel Like An
Unfinished Product?
And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work
in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.
Philippians 1:6
The greatest musical of all time is The
Sound of Music, and in the classic 1965 film Julie Andrews sings:
“I have confidence in sunshine
I have confidence in rain
I have confidence that spring will come again
Besides which you see I have confidence in me.”
A catchy song, which portrays how the
world wants us to believe in ourselves or other things but not God. In Philippians
1:6b Paul does not write, “I am confident in me.” Philippians 1:6 teaches us that we will be
“reserved” to the end because God will always “persevere.” What God starts he
always finishes.
Which means that I am still in the process
of being made full. God isn’t finished with me yet. when you look in the
mirror, and even deeper into your own soul, you may not like what you see, but
no matter. God isn’t finished with you yet.
But I feel there is good news and bad news
in this truth. The good news is that since God isn’t finished yet, we have
great hope for the future. The bad news is that since God isn’t finished yet,
he won’t let us stay as we are today. He’s going to keep chipping away at us
until we are conformed to the image of Jesus Christ. Most of us have a long way
to go, and some of us have an enormous distance to travel. But it doesn’t
matter. Direction makes all the difference.
This verse not only says that God will
start and continue the process but a greater assurance can be found. God guarantees the outcome of his work in you.
What is incomplete will be made complete.
What is unfinished will be finished. What is lacking will be made full. What is
partial will be made whole. What is less than enough will be far more than
adequate. What is broken will be fixed. What is hurt will be healed. What is
weak will be made strong. What is temporary will be made permanent.
God has promised to do it and he cannot
lie. Has God begun a good work in your life? Do you feel incomplete and
unfinished? Fear not, He will complete his work in you.
